Retention

Bravo! FINALLY, NO MORE BRACES!

You have now reached the retention phase of your treatment. But remember: this last stage is just as important as your treatment was. This will ensure that the work you’ve put in to gain your beautiful smile will not be in vain.

Your retainer is designed to maintain the position of your teeth while the bone that surrounds the roots of your teeth becomes completely solid. You should ALWAYS wear your appliance—NIGHT AND DAY, 24 HOURS PER DAY! You can only take it out to eat and brush your teeth.

  • After 6 months, you can decrease the amount of time you wear your appliance to 18 hours a day. (That is to say; from the moment you come home from school or work, until the following morning!)
  • After 12 months, you can wear your retainer even less—just at night time, but be careful! If at this stage you experience strong pressure on your teeth, it is because the bone has not sufficiently solidified. If that’s the case, go back to wearing your appliance 18 hours per day for a few more months.
  • After 2 years, you only have to wear your appliance 2 – 3 nights per week.

Again, congratulations! REMEMBER THAT YOU MUST FOLLOW OUR DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY IN ORDER TO PRESERVE YOUR BEAUTIFUL SMILE!
