Headgear

Sometimes, depending on the kind of issues you’re experiencing, headgear can be essential for your treatment.

Its main function is to push back your upper molars and/or to hold them back. In order to make that happen, however, we need you to follow these instructions:

  • To avoid injury, don’t practice sports or do physical activities while wearing your headgear.
  • Be gentle when removing and replacing your headgear.
  • Always remove the elastic straps before taking your appliance off.
  • Don’t let anyone touch or pull on your headgear while it’s in your mouth.
  • To prevent your bands from ungluing, avoid gummy foods such as bubble gum, jujubes, and toffee.
  • Don’t bite down on hard foods such as whole almonds, hard candies, ice cubes and the like.
  • Because your headgear may occasionally need adjusting, you should bring it with you to each appointment.

If it feels like one of your bands is loose, call us right away so that it can be re-cemented as soon as possible.
